Driving us to Distraction by Gilbert Cruz

For this blog, I chose to write about the short essay called Driving Us to Distraction. This short essay talks about texting while driving and how it causes us to be less focused on the road. Now he didn't just mention texting, he also talked about making calls and even hands-free technology! I, myself, must admit that I do text and drive, but I do it on rare occasions. Talking on the cell-phone is okay by me as long as you are capable of multitasking! Towards the end of his essay, he mentioned that Clarence Ditlow, CAS's executive director, said, "We're asking that technology be installed in cars to disable their cell phones whenever you shift out of park." I do NOT believe that this should be a law because that's cutting into our "Freedom". We pay for that cell phone, and if there was an emergency but you were driving, then no one would be able to get a hold of you or you would be unable to get a hold of anybody.

  1. Tha technology that he mentioned is capable of disable the cell phones if you have the car on, but if you turn it off you could make calls. If you are in an accident is obviously that if you are unconscious you can't make a call but if you are you could just turn off the car and make the call, he is saving your life and the others. Do you really care more about your freedom than yours and others life?
